Maria Kassab

Maria Kassab portrait

Maria Kassab is a Lebanese interdisciplinary artist and creative director. She is currently completing her MA in Photography at the BTK Arts & Design University in Berlin.

Her work focuses on identity, memory, and displacement, and convey her irreconcilable relationship with home through photography, image manipulation, and video work. For Kassab, images and photographs are blank canvases in need of materiality.

Through experimenting with photography, she narrates the physical and mental transformations within fictitious spaces, creating forms of resistance to the current cultural, social, and political climate in Lebanon and the region.

Kassab completed an Art Residency at Villa Empain Boghossian Foundation in Brussels (2019), and won the Sursock Museum Audience Choice Award (2019). She was the First Prize Photography Winner of the Boghossian Foundation 2017. She has been published in local and international art magazines, and has exhibited her works in Beirut, Paris, Washington DC, Copenhagen, Brussels, Palermo, and Berlin.
